To Listen: West Coast by Lana Del Rey

Thanks to Lana Del Rey for making our week so much better by releasing her new single West Coast. Not only does this get excited for weekend two of Coachella, but it gets us excited for the warmer weather to come. This song is for sure going to be blasting from our iPods all summer long.

To Do: The Bunny Museum

Looking for something to do after you fill up on candy this Sunday? Look no farther then the Bunny Museum in Pasadena. Time Out LA says: “With over 30,000 rabbits in the house (including one giant topiary, two freeze-dried past pets, three living breathing bunnies and countless stuffed animals, figurines and collectibles), the museum is an extreme homage to everything bun-related.” If that doesn’t convince you to check it out then head over over to their homepage to see how well they’ve ranked amongst other museums country-wide.

Exhibitor Profile: The House of Perna

unnamedIf you got a chance to stop by our Emerging Designer Showcase this past MAGIC, you may have noticed the beautiful, colorful clothing of The House of Perna. We were lucky enough to talk to Amanda Perna, the designer of The House of Perna, to find out a little bit more about her designs.

How would you define The House of Perna’s customer?
Our customer definitely likes to stand out in the crowd! She appreciates color, quality and bold prints.  She is adventurous, often a jet setter, and likes to be sexy but still always look sophisticated.

What makes your designs different from other brands?
We are different in many ways.  First, as cheesy as it sounds, they are completely made with love.  We put a lot of time, energy, and passion into each and every piece made so that our customers have beautiful pieces of clothing that can proudly be worn. All garments are made in NYC or Miami by seamstresses who are just as passionate about creating a beautiful, high quality product as I am.  We even develop our prints in house, so that we are sure we have high quality resolution and the exact image to tie the collection together. We are also different in that we use color year round (we think when the winter is drab women should wear bright colors and still look fab).

What and/or who inspires your designs?
I am inspired by so many thing.  My main muse is my customer, I try to envision where she will wear our clothes, and how they will move as she does.  I am often inspired by nature.  Our last collection, I was inspired by the concept of earth, fire & ice.  I am also very inspired by color.  Color is usually what drives the collections to feel a certain way.

How was it to be apart of the Emerging Designer showcase?
It was absolutely incredible!  We were so excited when we got the call that we had been accepted, but could have never imagined exactly how great it would be.  We had the opportunity to meet other fabulous brands, brilliant bloggers, and great mentors from Global Purchasing and FBI. The highlight of the showcase though was having Hal Rubenstein from In Style pull looks from us for a fashion show, and having the Costume Designers from Revenge and True Blood stop by and look through my line with me! I even got to go to a panel and meet one of my favorite Costume Designers of all time – Janie Bryant!

What are your future plans for The House of Perna? Where do you hope to see the brand go?
We are on an upswing momentum for sure (a big part of it is because of MAGIC).  We have gotten orders from numerous stores for Fall 14, so we will be in multiple states!  Our plan is to grow and expand at a steady rate until we are able to start showing to buyers at large retailers.  We are also looking to expand into mens, swim, and accessories within the next 5 years.

Where can we find the brand?
As of now, you can shop on our website thehouseofperna.com, or place custom orders directly from us using the info section on our site.  Keep also checking our site in the next few weeks as we will have all of the boutiques who will be carrying us for Fall 14 listed.

One of the most talked about celebrities at Coachella this year was Kendall Jenner for her stand out style. Unfortunately (or fortunately), we aren’t talking about her daring nose ring, but we did want to applaud her for her perfectly put together festival outfits. Although weekend one of Coachella is over, it doesn’t mean that you can’t rock something like this all summer. She combines boho style with a glammed-out cowboy vibe to make her outfit look effortless and breezy for the warmer weather to come.
